How To Frame Your Sports Shirts Like A Pro

Framing your sports shirt is a great way to show off your team spirit and preserve your favourite piece of clothing for years to come. However, framing your shirt improperly can ruin its appearance and devalue the shirt as an investment. This blog post will discuss the importance of proper framing and show you how to frame your sports shirts like a pro.

If you have a collection of sports shirts that you want to display, you may be wondering if it’s worth it to invest in professional framing. The answer is yes! A professional framer can properly mount and preserve your shirts so they can be enjoyed for years to come.

What Makes A Good Framer?

There are a few things to remember when framing a sports shirt. First, a framer needs to use matboards to suit the colour/s of the shirts. The shirt is stretched by inserting foamboard into the body of the shirt, keeping it nice and tight as well as giving it shape. Matboard is cut and inserted in to the sleeves of the shirt, again to keep them tight and they are then attached to the body of the shirt. This gives a nice, professional overall look to the shirt.

Secondly, it’s important the framer uses tapes and pins and or nylon tags, to not only hold the shirt in place but to be invisible once applied so that they won’t detract from the appearance of your shirt.

Finally, framers must make sure to take into account the size of your shirt. At I’ve Been Framed, we stretch the shirt first and leaving a uniform spacing from the shirt to the matboard, top (collar), sides (sleeves) and bottom (bottom of shirt), will determine the external size of the matboard. The shirt is attached to a matboard, which is then attached to a foam core backing board, it is shadow boxed and then has a matboard/s on top of the shadow box. Of course, there is a window opening on the matboard/s to display the shirt under glass, with the frame around it. It is then sealed, held in place using off set brackets, wired and d hooks for hanging.

Tips For Picking A Picture Framer

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a professional framer:

• Make sure the framer has experience working with textile items. This will ensure that your shirts are handled correctly and won’t be damaged during the framing process.

• Ask about the type of mounting system the framer uses. You’ll want to choose a system that will securely hold your shirts in place and prevent them from sagging over time.

• Be sure to discuss your aesthetic goals for the framing project. The framer should be able to suggest framing materials and methods that will help you achieve the look you want.

Investing in professional framing for your sports shirts is a great way to protect and display your collection. With careful planning, you can end up with a beautiful framing job that will last for years.
